The 'Mary Poppins Returns' star is in talks with Disney to make a follow-up to 'Moana' that will be featuring a young Latina heroine, his father says.

AceShowbiz - Lin-Manuel Miranda is going to set a new history with Disney. The multi-hyphenate star is reportedly teaming up with the studio to make an animated musical film as a follow-up to its 2016 hit movie "Moana", but this time it will feature a young Latina heroine.

Miranda's father, Luis, tells Page Six, "He is talking to Disney about a sequel to 'Moana', but the movie would be about a Latina princess." The studio behind other animated hits like "Frozen (2013)" has previously introduced its first African-American princess with "The Princess and the Frog" and its first Polynesian princess with "Moana", but the reported upcoming movie would be the first to feature Disney's Latina Princess.

Other details are not provided as of now, as Disney has not commented on the news.

Miranda previously worked with Disney to write songs for "Moana". He received Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, Oscar and Grammy Award nominations for "How Far I'll Go" which was performed by Auli'i Cravalho, who voices the titular character in the movie.

The 39-year-old actor/playwright recently also stars in Disney's "Mary Poppins Returns", which serves as a sequel to the 1964 movie. Emily Blunt plays the magical nanny, taking over the role from the original depicter Julie Andrews.

Miranda currently reprises his "Hamilton" role as Alexander Hamilton for the stage musical's three-week run in Puerto Rico from January 11 to 27. Proceeds from the shows will benefit the Flamboyan Arts Fund in support of arts in the island nation, which is still recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in late 2017.

The star, who is of mostly Puerto Rican descent, said on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" earlier this month about his stage return, "There's a song in this show called 'Hurricane' and I could barely get through it last night. Never in a million years would I imagine it would resonate in this way."
