In addition, the alleged premiere date of the sophomore season of the series has made its way out online, hinting that it will debut in January.

AceShowbiz - Good news for "The Punisher" fans! It appears that the Marvel spin-off series isn't canceled just yet. Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the second season of the series for viewing pleasure.

Clocking at 29 seconds, the video sees someone, high likely Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), holding an official presidential pardon, which he received per his agreement with Homeland Security at the end of the first season. Later he puts the pardon on fire as he's more than ready to get "back to work" as The Punisher.

Season 1 saw Frank finally taking vengeance on behalf of his family, but he didn't kill Billy Russo a.k.a. villainous Jigsaw (Ben Barnes). The bad guy is still alive somewhere and it seems like the sophomore season will see the two meeting and finishing what's left off in the previous season.

Jigsaw is not the only one whom Frank has to face in season 2. Religious villain John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart) will make an appearance in the new season and is expected to take the titular character's story in a new direction.

While the new teaser doesn't actually reveal the exact premiere date of season 2, the official Twitter account of Netflix for the Middle East and North Africa appears to leak the date. In a now-deleted tweet, it was revealed that season 2 of "The Punisher" will arrive on the streaming giant on January 18.

The teaser arrives after Netflix canceled a bunch of Marvel series on its network including "Marvel's Iron Fist", "Luke Cage" and "Daredevil". The cancellation still left a bad taste in fans' mouth as they couldn't help being bitter about it even after it's now confirmed that "The Punisher" will return for another season.

"We're going to get a second season of the Punisher on @Netflix before they cancel it along with the other @Marvel shows on their platform. I'm actually really excited for this. #ThePunisher," a fan sarcastically tweeted.

Another fan wrote, "Netflix, after canceling most Marvel shows: Get ready for new seasons of The Punisher & Jessica Jones :) Me: why? So you can cancel them a week later?"
