AceShowbiz - "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star Chow Yun-Fat is to leave his $723 million (£570 million) fortune to good causes after he dies.
The Hong Kong actor, who is also known outside Asia for roles in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and "Bulletproof Monk, has amassed his wealth as one of the world's highest paid actors.
The 63-year-old is known for his modest lifestyle and said he plans to leave all his money to the less fortunate.
"This money isn't something you possess for ever. When you're gone one day, you have to leave it to others to use it," he told South Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation. "You can't bring the money in your bank account with you after you die."
Chow and wife Jasmine Tan, who he said "strongly supports" the decision, have no children.
The action star grew up in poverty before starting out his acting career in TV in the 1980s. His collaborations with the filmmaker John Woo made him a star in Asia, before both crossed over to Hollywood. However, initially Woo found more success than his one-time protege.
It was a Chinese production that made him a star in America, as he played the lead in Ang Lee's 2000 martial arts smash hit "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
