The 34-year-old singer/songwriter, who released her self-titled album in 2016, was found with her car submerged in the Danube River in south-western Romania.

AceShowbiz - Anca Pop, a Romanian-Canadian singer, passed away in tragic circumstances. Her car plunged into the Danube River in south-western Romania and her body was identified after divers found her car submerged in the water on late Monday, December 17. She was only 34.

According to the Associated Press, police began looking into Anca's whereabouts after her sister reported that she never made it to their family home on Sunday evening. As of now, it's not clear how her car plunged into the river as police are still investigating her death.

Anca had a big following in Japan with her rhythmic and pop vibe. Her music is described as a fusion of Balkan and mainstream pop by Billboard. She collaborated with Bosnian musician Goran Bregovici to release her debut album in 2012. The singer/songwriter released her self-titled album "Anca Pop" in 2016.

The young artist was born in a small town of Moldova Noua, in Romania in 1984. She and her family fled the communist country in 1987 when she was three years old in an inflatable raft. "My mom did not know how to swim, and my parents risked everything when they decided to escape in the middle of the night over the freezing river; we could have been shot by guards at any moment," she recalled in a post on her Facebook page. "Luckily that did not happen."

She returned to Romania after communism ended. She caused media frenzy earlier this year after opening up about her sexual preference and revealing she was in a same-sex relationship in a society which is still intolerant of homosexuality.

She was also known for often sharing provocative photos and videos on her social media page.
