The 'Walking Dead' actor adopts the two animals, which cry when they're separated, so that they can stay together.

AceShowbiz - Jeffrey Dean Morgan has given home to an unusual pair of animals. On Tuesday, December 4, "The Walking Dead" actor announced that the inseparable donkey and emu, which were found abandoned on a farm in Kershaw, South Carolina, have finally arrived at his own in Hudson Valley, New York.

The 52-year-old broke the news through his Twitter account. "A quick update to those interested... J&D made it HOME," he penned, referring to Jack the donkey and Diane the emu. "They spent the day exploring new digs... and I just tucked them in to bed with some berries for Diane, apple for Jack. Family is in love with its newest members."

"Gonna give them a little time to settle in... both from drive and I'm sure... just... a hard life so far," the actor added in another tweeted a few minutes after the first one. "That all changes forever today. They are home. Once they feeling secure and cool, I'll be posting pics... I know you all are excited! We are too!"

Morgan's update announcement drew praises from his followers. Still, he humbly replied to the applauds. "We all should at least try. Everyone has the ability to help and make a difference," he wrote back in response to @NaturallyBette's appreciative tweet. "God knows the world needs it. No matter how small... it all adds up."

The story of Jack and Diane's friendship went viral after being shared by Carolina Waterfowl Rescue on Facebook back in early November. According to rescue founder Jennifer Gordon, the unlikely duo bonded so strongly before they were rescued that they have to be adopted as a pair. "They like to cuddle and even sleep together," she told The Charlotte Observer. "We can't separate them, so we need someone who is willing to adopt both a donkey and an emu."

A few days after, the story reached Morgan. The husband of Hilarie Burton was quick to connect with Gordon via Twitter. "Hey there... read the story... if you are looking for a forever home for jack and diane? Happy to take them, and keep them together at our farm. They would be a welcome addition to our menagerie of happy creatures," he first contacted her on November 11.

At the time, the "Rampage" actor weren't the only one applying for the duo's adoption. Gordon received more than 2,000 inquiries from London, Canada, France and several other countries. "The response has been overwhelming," she revealed in a Facebook post. "Our phone system is crashing our email system is crashing. We simply cannot keep up with the volume of people sending us Facebook messages texts emails and phone calls."
