Taking to Instagram Stories, the 'Modern Family' star reveals that her 14-year-old cousin Trevor died in a drunk driving accident on Saturday, December 1.

AceShowbiz - December starts off with a devastating news for Sarah Hyland and family. The "Modern Family" star revealed on Instagram Stories on Sunday, December 2 that her 14-year-old cousin died in a drunk driving incident on the previous day.

As if the news wasn't sad enough for the star, she also revealed that her uncle was in critical condition due to the accident. "This is my 14 year old cousin Trevor," Sarah wrote along with a screenshot taken from a GoFundMe page. "Yesterday, he was killed by a drunk driver. My uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries.

She then asked her 6 million followers to help donate for his funeral and medical expenses, sharing a link to a GoFundMe page seeking $25,000. Sarah herself has donated $1,000.

In another post, the "Scary Movie 5" actress shared further details about the incident, divulging the name of the killer. "Jeffery Eggerling took a 14 year old boy's life," she begin explaining. "Jeffery Eggerling hit my Uncle Car's so fast my cousin (who was wearing a seatbelt) was ejected from the car."

Sarah went on explaining that this wasn't the first time the culprit was involved in drunk driving incident and he tried to flee the scene before getting arrested by police. "Jeffery Eggerling is under arrest and I hope to God he spends the rest of his life in prison."

Several of her "Modern Family" co-stars have sent prayers and support following the news, including Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould. Her on-screen sister on the USA Network comedy even helped donate $2,500. As of now, her family has received more than $25,000 of donation.

According to report, Trevor and his dad were driving in Omaha, Nebraska in their 1993 Nissan Maxima when a 2011 Ford Escape ran a red light at Harrison Street and collided with the Nissan. Police said that the driver of the Ford left his vehicle at the scene and fled. He was uninjured.
