The early renewal of the ABC series comes ahead of season 6, which is set to arrive next year.

AceShowbiz - Rejoice, fans! Contrary to popular belief, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is not dead yet as ABC is renewed the Marvel series for season 7. The new season will have 13 episodes to offer.

The early renewal comes ahead of season 6, which is set to arrive next year. This is a good sign for fans as it has been wildly rumored that the upcoming season 6 might be the last after it was revealed that it would only have 13 episodes instead of its usual 22 episodes.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, however, assured that it was never the plan to make season 6 the final season. "I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet," she said back then. "We don't plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing."

But fans' concerns were not entirely baseless. Showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen previously shared that they weren't confident when it comes to possible new seasons beyond season 5. Thus, they wrote the season 5 finale as the series finale just in case the show wasn't renewed.

"We'll never end something without the potential for more story," Tancharoen previously shared. "That's how we've ended every season because, whenever we've come to the end of all the seasons past, we go into that mostly not knowing until the very last minute, so we're basically doing the same thing to close out season 5. It can fit well as a possible series finale, and it can fit well as just another season's end."

Whedon added, "You always want to leave the idea that there’s more stories, it’s a question of whether or not we will tell them. We have our end, and we’ll stick to it regardless, and we think it'll work either way."

Starring Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez and Jeff Ward as Deke Shaw, season 5 of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is set to premiere in 2019 on ABC.
