AceShowbiz - Sam Smith has recorded the theme to the BBC's upcoming animated adaptation of Richard Adams' novel "Watership Down".

The singer, who picked up an Oscar for recording James Bond theme "Writing's on the Wall", wrote "Fire On Fire" with Steve Mac, and teamed up with the BBC Concert Orchestra at London's fabled Abbey Road Studios to complete the track.

The series will air on the BBC and streaming service Netflix this Christmas.

The voice cast includes James McAvoy, John Boyega, Olivia Colman, Gemma Arterton, Sir Ben Kingsley, Peter Capaldi, Rory Kinnear, and Rosamund Pike, among others.

Adams' beloved story has already been animated - a 1978 movie featured the voices of John Hurt, Richard Briers, Ralph Richardson, and Kinnear's late father Roy.

That film also featured the theme "Bright Eyes", sung by Art Garfunkel.
