Explaining the reason why she chose to wear a Marchesa dress designed by Georgina Chapman, the 'Quantico' star insists she doesn't think her friend should suffer for what her ex-husband did.

AceShowbiz - Priyanka Chopra is standing by her choice to wear a Marchesa dress designed by Harvey Weinstein's ex-wife to her bridal shower.

The actress decided to wear a strapless white gown with a tight bodice and full, feathered skirt as an act of support for the brand's head designer and her longtime friend Georgina Chapman, who was once married to the disgraced movie mogul.

The couple separated last year (17), shortly after the producer was accused of sexual misconduct by over 60 women. Weinstein has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.

Chapman's business took a hit in the wake of the scandal, which broke in October, 2017, as many stars shunned the label, which had once been a fixture on the red carpet, particularly during awards season.

However, Chopra insists Chapman should not be made to suffer for her now-ex-husband's actions, noting her controversial fashion choice was about "women supporting women".

"Georgina's a friend of mine...," she told Women's Wear Daily. "And it's not her fault. And I don't think it's right to take it out on a self-made woman what somebody in her life did (sic)".

"That's the wrong attitude," Chopra continued about the celebrity boycott of Marchesa. "I've known her for years, and that was a beautiful gown, and deserved to be worn by a bride-to-be. And it made me feel like a princess. It was the right choice".

Chopra isn't the first star to lend her support to Chapman at a high-profile event - Scarlett Johansson hit headlines in May after picking a Marchesa creation to wear to the prestigious Met Gala in New York.

"I wore Marchesa because their clothes make women feel confident and beautiful and it is my pleasure to support a brand created by two incredibly talented and important female designers," Johansson told People at the time.

Chapman, who shares two children with Weinstein, founded Marchesa with her business partner Keren Craig in 2004.
