The former member of The Fugees has teamed up with producer Greg Silverman for the Netflix project that will feature his childhood in Haiti.

AceShowbiz - Former The Fugees star Wyclef Jean's childhood in Haiti is to feature in a new animated TV series.

The singer and songwriter has teamed up with producer Greg Silverman for the Netflix project, which will be written by Justin Marks, whose credits include "The Jungle Book" and "Top Gun: Maverick".

"I grew up in extreme poverty but I was rich with imagination," Wyclef says in a statement. "Now to see that imagination turn into reality with Netflix and my producing partners makes me want to tell the kids from the slums around the world to never stop dreaming."

The "Gone Til November" star left Haiti for New York City when he was nine, but he has always had his homeland in his heart and briefly staged a bid to take over as the nation's leader in 2010. He was ruled ineligible for the office of President as he didn't meet the necessary residency requirements.

At the time, he said he would try again in 2015, but the singer opted not to run against President Jovenel Moise.
