The daughter of Prince Andrew wore a long-sleeved ivory gown featuring a low back that revealed scars from a surgery she had to treat scoliosis when she was 12.

AceShowbiz - Princess Eugenie made a statement on her wedding day with Jack Brooksbank. Looking stunning in an ivory dress by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos featuring a flowing full-length train and a low back, she revealed her back scars from a surgery to treat scoliosis when she 12 years old.

The bride specifically requested the low back for the said purpose, said Buckingham Palace. She hinted at her intent to show off her scars during an interview broadcast on ITV earlier that day as saying, "I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it's really special to stand up for that."

She has since been applauded for her decision to embrace her flaw. One Twitter user wrote, "Princess Eugenie really is so inspiring to other sufferers having an open back wedding dress to show off her scoliosis scar! Makes me especially proud of who I am #RoyalWedding2."

Another added, "Princess Eugenie looks stunning, and I love that her dress deliberately shows off her Scoliosis surgery scar, what a beautiful lady." Echoing the sentiment, a mom whose daughter has a scar on her back tweeted, "I LOVE that Princess Eugenie had a low back dress to show off her scar - my 5yo daughter has a scar on her back from an operation and I will show her later that even Princesses have scars and they are nothing to be embarrassed of #royalwedding."

As someone who has multiple surgeries himself, Michelle Elman praised the British princess. "It's great she has decided to show her scars. Her scars are a part of her body and just like the rest of her body, she should never feel obligated to hide parts of it for other people," he told HuffPost U.K. The founder of the body positive movement Scarred not Scared added, "It's a brilliant example for anyone who worries about their scars or are insecure about them."

Phyllida Swift, who has scar on her face due to a car accident, also weighed in, "How brilliant to see Princess Eugenie proudly showing off her scars.
