Admitting her reluctance to talk about politics in the past, the 'Shake It Off' hitmaker shows her support for Democrats at the upcoming midterm elections in an Instagram post.

AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift is no longer tight-lipped about her political affiliation. Having been questioned about her stance during the 2016 presidential election, the country-turned-pop superstar finally took to Instagram on Sunday, October 7 to show her support for Democrats ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
"In the past I've been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now," she admitted, referring to a groping case involving radio DJ David Mueller, which was brought to trial in 2017 and ended with a victory for her.
She wrote, "I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent."
Stating that she will be voting Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives, she explained why she doesn't support Tennessee's Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn, "Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values."
Advocating the importance of voting, she added, "Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway."
Taylor was previously criticized for remaining silence amid the tense political situation following the election of Donald Trump as the U.S. president. Thus, her Instagram post is a major move and many have applauded her for finally breaking her silence in the issue.
Comedian Morgan Murphy tweeted, "good for Taylor Swift & if you don't think that takes some guts imagine the s**t you get for your opinions and multiply that vitriol by a number so high it hasn't been invented yet."

"I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now"

"Why?"
"Oh, 'cause she's motivated by political consciousness and raising awareness for the candidates of her choice!"
Another Twitter user commented, "I can't believe things are so bad that Taylor Swift blew up her right-wing following. Holy shit, what a great thing for her to do. I'm genuinely impressed."

Thank you for the kind words @taylorswift13. I’m honored to have your support and that of so many Tennesseans who are ready to put aside the partisan shouting and get things done. We’re ready for it. Last day to register to vote is October 9. https://t.co/6Xd6YyaJCG pic.twitter.com/CatUBkXPKe
