Insisting that his late singer daughter had all the support she needed, Mitch Winehouse doubts the former member of 'The Beatles' claim he could have helped her.

AceShowbiz - Amy Winehouse's father has assured Paul McCartney there was nothing he could have done for the tragic singer after recently revealing he regretted not taking time to speak to her at an awards show.

The former The Beatles star told GQ magazine he met the Rehab singer at the MTV Europe Awards in Liverpool in 2008, three years before she died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27, and still feels he should have said more than a casual 'hello.'

"I knew she had a problem, and I ended up just saying hi (and) she said hi," McCartney said, recalling his brief chat with Amy backstage. "Afterwards I thought, 'I really should have just run after her (and said), Hey, Amy, listen, you’re really good, I really hope you...', and say something that broke through the despair. And she'd remember and think, 'Oh yeah, I'm good, I’ve got a life to lead.'"

But Amy's dad Mitch Winehouse insists no one could have got through to his troubled daughter.

"What would he have done?" Mitch said during an appearance on U.K. show Loose Women on Friday, September 14. "It's up to the person in recovery and they have to want to get help. It's all about the person who is dealing with her addiction. A lot of people like him (McCartney) think they can fix things. Why could he fix that? Of the hundreds of thousands of people dealing with addiction, all we need is Paul McCartney?"

"She had all the support. She had a loving family. If my nan (grandmother) came down from hell in a fiery chariot, Amy would say, 'OK, maybe next week.' "
