The 'Same Old Love' songstress felt lucky that she had a platform to share her experience during the event, which was aired on ABC.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez attended WE Day 2018 celebration on April 19 at The Forum in Los Angeles. The annual event, which was aired on ABC on August 17, featured the songstress sharing her story about kidney transplant to the audience. Wearing a red sweater and a burgundy lipstick, Selena looked stunning as she delivered her inspiring speech on the stage.

"You are focusing on making the world a more hopeful place and you encourage me and all of my friends to do the same," the "Same Old Love" songstress said, before discussing her personal health struggle, "As maybe some of you know, I had a kidney transplant this year and so many people from across the country reached out and they offered their support."

Selena then revealed that her story encouraged some people to help others, "And others told me how hearing my story helped them find their own courage and helped other people want to get involved and donate. They reminded me how lucky I am to have a platform where I can share with you guys and I can pay the love forward." Afterward, the audience could be seen cheering.

The "It Ain't Me" hitmaker previously promoted the event on her Instagram account by sharing a picture of herself and 8-year-old Nellie Mainor, who suffers from a rare kidney disease. The photo also featured words that read, "Whether your platform is big or small, we all have the power to lift up those around us."

Selena expressed her excitement of participating at the event in the caption, "So excited to be a part of the WE Day inspiration once again! Watch #WEday on ABC August 17 at 8/7c-you won't want to miss Nellie's story!"

Selena was diagnosed with lupus in October 2015, leading her to undergo a kidney transplant in September 2017. It was her friend, Francia Raisa, who willingly gave one of her kidneys to the "Fetish" singer. The latter showed her gratitude by posting a picture of them holding hands while lying on hospital beds side-by-side.

"I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you," the Disney alum told her followers in the caption. "Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery."

"And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis," Selena added.
