AceShowbiz - Board members at the College of William & Mary in Virginia have voted to rescind Bill Cosby's honorary degree following his sexual assault conviction earlier this year.

The school is latest on a long list to distance itself from Cosby, who was found guilty on three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault related to accusations that he drugged and sexually assaulted a Temple University coach in 2004.

Following their decision on Friday, August 10, the board members released a statement, which read: "The William & Mary Board of Visitors voted today to rescind the honorary Master of Arts degree awarded to Bill Cosby in 1993.

"Since that degree was bestowed, information came to light and was confirmed that Mr. Cosby engaged in abhorrent conduct antithetical to our university's core values."

The statement continued: "We are committed to both the elimination of sexual violence and the adherence to due process."

The College of William & Mary had never rescinded an honorary degree since it first awarded one to Benjamin Franklin in 1756. The institution revoked Bill Cosby's honorary degree on Friday: https://t.co/4a1v05YLAv

Academics and board members at Yale University, Northwestern University, the University of Pennsylvania and Cosby's alma mater, Temple University have also stripped the comic of honorary titles and degrees.

More than 60 women have accused him of sexual assault.

Cosby's sentencing is scheduled for September 24.
