'Sis said no,' Nicki writes in a now-deleted tweet, suggesting Chapman didn't like the idea of her hit being used on a rap track.

AceShowbiz - Singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman reportedly blocked Nicki Minaj from sampling her Baby Can I Hold You track on her new album.

The rapper initially stalled the release of Queen by a week, to 17 August, so she could officially get Chapman's OK - but it appears that didn't come, and she was forced to leave her love song, Sorry, with former lover Nas off the album, which dropped early on Friday, August 10, just hours after Nicki had signed off on the project.

Top New York DJ Funkmaster Flex got hold of a copy of the deleted album track and played it over the weekend, prompting Minaj to post the now-deleted tweet "Sis said no", suggesting Chapman didn't like the idea of her hit being used on a rap track.

Announcing her plans to delay the release of Queen by a week to seek out proper permission for the sample, Minaj even quizzed fans for their input, asking them if they thought she should stall the album.

Queen, which also features guest appearances by Eminem, Future, Ariana Grande, and the Weeknd, was previewed on Nicki's first Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music, which launched on Thursday night.

The album's already a big hit among Minaj's peers, with her mentor Lil Wayne going public with his thoughts about the new release on Twitter - he has posted a video online, in which his insists Queen is an instant classic.

The Lollipop hitmaker, who is namechecked on the track Barbie Dreams, says, "First of all, I just want to congratulate the beautiful queen, Miss Nicki Minaj, for the beautiful album, Queen, which is, to date, in my opinion, one of her best albums yet.

"I'm not gonna go out there on a limb and say it's her best album, because I can still listen to songs (from) when she was... a teenager, and I still hear vocals and lyrics from there that are, to me, the best thing she's ever said in her life. So, I'm specific like that, but to date, it's one of the best albums yet - and I don't mean out of her catalogue. I mean period."
