Doctor Meena Makhijani claims the actress has major impairment of her short-term memory and moderate impairment of understanding abstract concepts, sense of time, place and immediate recall.

AceShowbiz - Star Trek icon Nichelle Nichols' doctor has confirmed the actress is suffering from dementia in new court papers.

Nichols' son, Kyle Johnson, first went public with the star's health battle in May, when he filed a request nominating four trustees to become his mother's conservators, giving them control of her finances and decisions related to her health.

He explained this is necessary because her dementia is "impacting her executive functioning" and makes her "susceptible to undue influence".

And now her doctor, Meena Makhijani, has confirmed the actress, who played Lieutenant Uhura on TV, is suffering from "moderate progressive dementia".

In new court documents obtained by TMZ, she claims Nichols has major impairment of her short-term memory and moderate impairment of understanding abstract concepts, sense of time, place and immediate recall.
