AceShowbiz - Sheryl Crow was so sick of the budget-breaking prices of expensive clothing lines she has launched her own affordable collection.

The If It Makes You Happy singer has designed a namesake apparel and accessories collection for the Home Shopping Network (HSN), and reveals she refused to price her pieces too high, revealing keeping costs low was a major goal for her throughout the design process.

"I hate how expensive clothes have become," she tells InStyle magazine. "I don't like spending $3,000 (£2,300) on a handbag, or $2,000 (£1,500) on a jacket. Every woman wants to look great, and it can be depressing when what you love is ridiculously overpriced.

"I wanted to make clothes that would look cool and edgy, and not break the bank".

Sheryl has reached her pricing goal, offering a pair of jeans for $100 (£77), and selling accessories like her leather Americana booties for under $200 (£154) - and she is also proud of the fact the designs reflect her personal fashion taste.

"The line is very organic and fun to create," she shares. "I'm very drawn to vintage and denim (and) I wanted everything to have that American flair".

Part of what makes Sheryl so money conscious is her personal history - the star lived on a limited salary when she was a music teacher at an elementary school after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1984.

I made $17,000 (£13,000) my first year of teaching, and $17,400 (£13,370) the next year,” the 56 year old recalls. "I'm still that frugal girl from Missouri who was raised knowing the worth of a dollar. My relationship to money is still 'work hard, get paid'".

Sheryl's new clothing collection is now available for purchase on the Home Shopping Network website.
