AceShowbiz - Andy Serkis has signed on to direct a new Netflix adaptation of George Orwell's novel "Animal Farm".
The actor and filmmaker will develop a motion capture movie based on the 1945 novel, which centres on a group of farm animals that rebel for independence. The book is inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1917 and subsequent Joseph Stalin regime of the Soviet Union, according to Deadline.
Serkis has been working on the project for years, and originally planned to star in it, although it is unclear if he still intends to appear onscreen.
"We are incredibly excited to have finally found the perfect creative home in Netflix for this extraordinarily zeitgeist work by George Orwell," he shares in a statement. "On top of that, to be re-united with my great friend (producer) Matt Reeves - with his acute sensitivity, storytelling intelligence and honesty and command in this realm - is to have the very best scenario for our long-held passion to bring this fable alive."
"Animal Farm" was previously made into an animated comedy/drama in 1954, and adapted for a TV film in 1999, with characters voiced by the likes of Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
