AceShowbiz - Yoko Ono proves that age is indeed just a number. The 85-year-old singer-songwriter announced on Tuesday, July 24 that she would be releasing a stripped-down LP called "Warzone" in addition to unveiling the title track.
Unlike the original version, the new version finds the singer delivering the blunt lyrics over distorted sounds of machine guns firing and animals crying out. "Guys stealing zillions gets away/ While we knock each other to make our day/ Wake up, wake up." she sings. "Hold your life/ Wake up/ They're out to chill/ They're out to kill."
The upcoming album will feature 13 reimagined songs which are chosen from her 20 albums released over the course of 50 years. The tracks will be stripped down versions that focus on Ono's vocals and her words of warning. She said of the project in a statement, "The world is so messed up. Things are very difficult for everybody. It's a warzone that we are living in. I like to create things in a new way. Every day things change."
Ono will premiere a new track off the effort every Tuesdays via the website ImaginePeace.com, including a cover of John Lennon's legendary song "Imagine". The album will make its way out on October 19 via Chimera Music, a record label run by her son Sean Lennon.
Last year, the National Music Publishers Association awarded Ono a co-writing credit on "Imagine", after discovering an interview with Lennon in 1980. During the interview, the late rocker said the concept and lyrics for the song came from her book "Grapefruit", and thus credit should be shared between him and his wife.
NMPA CEO David Israeli presented the addition at the organization's annual meeting in New York City. "It is my distinct honor to correct the record 48 years later and recognize Yoko Ono as a co-writer of the NMPA Contennial Song 'Imagine' and to present her with this well-deserved credit," he said at the time.
