The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' stars come to the director's defense as fans launched a petition to get Disney rehire him for the third installment.

AceShowbiz - After Disney decided to fire director James Gunn from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" over offensive tweets, the stars came to James' defense. This time, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana addressed the issue on their Twitter accounts after Dave Bautista did it first on Friday, July 20.

Chris took to his account to quote a bible verse to represent his thoughts. "Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. JAMES 1:19," the father of one said on his personal account.

Zoe, who seemed to be shocked by the news, declared her love for all members of the movie franchise despite the tweets scandal. "It's been a challenging weekend I'm not gonna lie. I'm pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of term," the Gamora depicter wrote. "I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my GOTG family. Always will."

Meanwhile, loyal fans of the movie franchise gathered to join in the fight to get James back to direct the third installment by releasing a petition. The petition entitled "RE-HIRE JAMES GUNN" was launched on Change.org shortly after Disney announced his firing. The petition has gathered more than 58,000 signatures. "The Grey" director Joe Carnahan and "Hellboy" actress Selma Blair are among those who have signed the petition.

James was fired by Disney after his jokes about rape and pedophilia on Twitter from ten years ago came to light. "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him," Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement.

The 51-year-old director then apologized for his offensive tweets. "Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I've developed as a person, so has my work and my humor," James explained on his account. "In the past, I have apologized for humor of mine that hurt people. I truly felt sorry and meant every word of my apologies."

Marvel Studios has yet to give information about who will helm "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3".
