AceShowbiz - Another superhero movie besides "Shazam!" unleashed its first trailer during Warner Bros. Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 21. Introducing the origin of the titular character, the sneak-peek video for the highly-anticipated "Aquaman" mostly highlights how he accepts his fate as the rightful heir to the throne of the undersea nation of Atlantis.

A half-Atlantean half-human, Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) was born to a lighthouse keeper (Temuera Morrison) and a runaway Atlantean Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). Raised on the surface, Arthur discovers his connection to undersea life as a kid and uses his powers to fight undersea pirates as an adult.

When Arthur's half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) is about to declare war on the surface world, Mera (Amber Heard), a princess of Xebel, one of the seven underwater kingdoms of Atlantis, finds him to convince him to claim his throne as the King of Atlantis. Initially reluctant, Arthur agrees to challenge King Orm to protect his "home" and the people he loves.

As he explores the undersea kingdom, we get to see the people and animals underwater, including The Fisherman King, a leader of one of the seven kingdoms, the sea dragons and Orm's massive alligator-like "tylosaur." The video also features Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a high-seas pirate and mercenary who has a secret grudge against Arthur and uses his high-tech skills to go after him.

"I want our film to be a little different, a bit more unique, so to speak," director James Wan told the crowd at Comic-Con. "So my movie in some ways plays more like a science fiction fantasy film than a traditional superhero movie."

During the panel, Wan also presented an exclusive trailer that won't be released online. The footage opens with a narration about the love story of Arthur's parents. "My parents were from different worlds," he says, as the video briefly shows his mother fighting off home invaders with a trident. "And I was a product of a love that never should have been. A son of the land and a son of the sea."

The video cuts to a scene set at the Sahara Desert, where Mera and Arthur are trekking to long-abandoned ruins where he apparently finds the trident of Atlantis. "If you seek my power, journey on the edge of the world to the hidden sea," he says in the video. "In the wrong hands, it would bring destruction. But in the hands of the true heir, it would unite all our kingdoms above and below."

Aquaman's first encounter with Mera and Black Manta is also teased in the video. In another scene, Aquaman and and Mera are chased through a seaside town. The video ends with a shot of Arthur wearing Aquaman's classic orange armor.

Willem Dafoe also stars as Aquaman's mentor Vulko, while Dolph Lundgren plays Nereus, the king of the undersea nation of Xebel. "Aquaman" is heading into theaters across the nation on December 14.
