The 10-episode series is set in a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian political party.

AceShowbiz - "The Purge" has a serious question in its first trailer. Released during the show's panel at the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 21, the almost-2-minute footage asks everyone, "What is more American than the Purge?" Judging how brutal people are during the Purge night, it seems like the answer is "nothing."

The trailer opens with a group of workers who still have to go to work on the Purge night where all crime, including murder, is legal. "Please be safe tonight. Please, stay within the protected area," says their boss through a conference video call.

Somewhere in the trailer, a man is looking for his sister who is according to a member of what looks like a cult, is being "purged upon." Later, a glimpse of masked people attacking and killing others are offered.

"It is a giving time," says a character, before a scene of someone getting axed in front of a bus full of people is flickered on the screen.

The 10-episode series is set in a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian political party. The USA Network series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city, according to the official synopsis.

"Tying them all together is a mysterious savior who’s impeccably equipped for everything the night throws at them. As the clock winds down with their fates hanging in the balance, each character is forced to reckon with their pasts as they discover how far they will go to survive the night," the synopsis continues.

During the show's panel, which was attended by producer Jason Blum, Purge creator James DeMonaco, director Anthony Hemingway, producer Brad Fuller and showrunner Tom Kelly, at the annual con, DeMonaco shared, "Time is the biggest factor on a very practical level. We had 10 hours to explore things we couldn't even attempt to do in the movie."

He added, "That gives us the real estate to get into characters more and use a flashback structure to go off purge. Here we go back five years before the purge, 3 months before the purge, 2 days before the purge. So we'll see how this society exists within the purge landscape."

Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions. "The Purge" is slated to premiere on USA Network and Syfy on Tuesday, September 4 at 10 P.M.
