The singer/songwriter reveals she battled anxiety and obsessive compulsive tendencies before 'coming out' as transgender last year.

AceShowbiz - Singer Teddy Geiger battled anxiety and obsessive compulsive tendencies before "coming out" as transgender last year (17).
The singer/songwriter, who has penned hits for Shawn Mendes and One Direction, revealed she was transitioning in October, after she was asked by a fan on Instagram why her appearance had changed.
Geiger reveals a month before she made her announcement she entered into treatment programme to "get to the bottom of the gender thing".
"I can remember back to being five and looking in the mirror, feeling like a girl and wanting that," she tells the New York Times. "But growing up..., there were limited resources. I'd never met a trans person before."
"I was going through adolescence and having sex for the first time, but it was in this really weird context," she adds. "I didn't have a real support group."
The 29 year old was first made aware of transgender people when she was in her early 20s, and after she returned from treatment she became confident about showing her true self to the world. She also stopped smoking cigarettes and marijuana.
"I threw away all my boys clothes and started wearing makeup," she says.
Teddy began hormone treatment as part of her transition, and was thrilled when famous friends, like Mendes, offered their support.
"(I) unconsciously referred to Teddy as she for the first time in the flow of conversation," Shawn says. "(She) looked at me with an overwhelming amount of happiness and joy beaming out of her eyes."
"It was right then that everything really made sense to me. For everybody that ever questions why people may choose to transition, if they had a best friend or somebody they loved dearly look at them - the way Teddy looked at me in that moment - they would no longer question it. To me, Teddy is more her than she's ever been."
