AceShowbiz - A judge has denied a request from Prince's heirs to pull out of an album deal with bosses at Jay-Z's Tidal streaming service.
Officials representing the late Purple Rain icon's estate reached an agreement with Tidal executives last month to pre-release a posthumous new album featuring music from the late singer's fabled vault.
The deal will allow Tidal top brass to offer the unreleased tracks to subscribers 14 days before the album's launch on other platforms.
But last week, ends June 22, an attorney for Sharon, Norrine, and John Nelson asked a judge to reconsider the order granting the music rights to Tidal chiefs, because they have been accused of inflating streaming figures for albums by Kanye West and Beyonce. Tidal executives have denied the allegations, made by editors at Norway's Dagens Naeringsliv (DN) newspaper, but Prince's heirs didn't want his estate to be part of any legal proceedings over the matter.
A lawyer for the estate asked that their request be denied and, on Tuesday, June 26, Carver County District Court Judge Kevin Eide sided with the attorney.
The ruling came a day after estate officials signed a new deal with Sony Music Entertainment bosses to revamp 35 albums from Prince's back catalogue. Titles from 1978 to 2015 will be re-released via the Legacy Recordings imprint.
