New Ramones Biopic Is in the Works
Movie

Titled 'I Slept with Joey Ramone', the new movie will be based on Mickey Leigh's 2009 memoir documenting the band's rise.

AceShowbiz - The Ramones are to be the subject of a biopic directed by Nick Cassavetes.

The new film, titled "I Slept with Joey Ramone", will be based on Mickey Leigh's 2009 memoir documenting the band's rise at the heart of New York's 1970s punk movement.

According to producer Gene Kirkwood, "The Other Woman" filmmaker is planning to put together his own band for the new movie - to take the place of the group, as all original members are deceased.

"Nick is digging deep with Mickey Leigh," Kirkwood told The Hollywood Reporter. "The plan is he and Mickey will discover the talent and put a real band together."

The producer has had success with music films in the past, as his previous projects include HBO's "The Defiant Ones", chronicling Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre's musical and business partnership, and 50 Cent's semi-autobiographical biopic "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy, who all took stage names ending with the surname Ramone, emerged at the forefront of the punk scene and won fans around the world with their self-titled 1976 album.

Mickey also enjoyed some success as a musician, with the bands Birdland, The Rattlers and Sibling Rivalry.

A number of rock movies are currently in production, including Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody", which is set to hit cinemas in October, 2018.
