Dedrick D. Williams has been booked on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the killing.

AceShowbiz - Detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of rapper XXXTENTACION.

The 20-year-old hip-hop star, real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was gunned down after leaving a motorcycle dealer in Deerfield Beach, Florida on Monday, June 18.

According to TMZ.com, officers from Broward County Sheriff's Department took 22-year-old Dedrick D. Williams into custody on Wednesday, and he has been booked on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the killing.

Editors at the gossip site report that Williams has previously been arrested for numerous other offences, including aggravated assault with a firearm. He has apparently also been charged with a probation violation for a previous grand theft auto charge - and is being held without bail.

Authorities have reportedly been searching for two suspects who fled in an SUV vehicle, described as two black males wearing hoodies - with the alleged shooter covering his face with a red mask. The attacker is believed to have approached XXXTENTACION's car and fired multiple rounds. Police were called to the scene, where the emerging hip-hop star was found slumped over in his car without a pulse. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died from his injuries.

Following his death, vigils have been held for the SAD! rapper - with TMZ reporting that his mother attended one in South Florida on Wednesday - and told family and friends police officers had notified her of the arrest.

The rapper rose to fame with the release of his first two albums, the second of which, "?", topped of the U.S. Billboard 200 in March.

His success has been controversial however, as he was awaiting trial amid allegations of assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend in 2016. He was also charged with witness tampering and harassment after allegedly trying to convince the woman not to testify against him.
