The actor, who is now married to Connie Angland, also talks about his and Angelina's infamous necklace that has each other's blood in the pendants.

AceShowbiz - Billy Bob Thornton has opened up about the end of his marriage to Angelina Jolie, revealing the stars divorced because they were on different paths.

The actors ended their two-year marriage in 2003 amid reports suggesting Thornton didn't want to become a dad to Jolie's adopted son Maddox, but now he insists that wasn't the case - the former couple just had different goals.

Explaining there are no hard feelings between the former lovers, Billy Bob tells the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's HFPA in Conversation podcast, "Angie is still a friend of mine and she's a great person and she's done so much. She makes movies that are important to her whether they succeed or fail, she still does what she believes in and I'll always respect her for that."

"I remember our time together has really been great (sic)," he adds. "We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle... That's the only reason we're probably not still together."

The couple was known for its bizarre antics, including wearing each other's blood in pendants around their necks, but Thornton insists many of the stories about them were "exaggerated".

"We had so much fun," he adds. "A lot of the things they said about us at the time were exaggerated. It wasn't as crazy as people wrote about it, you know what I mean?"

"The necklaces were a very simple thing: 'Hey, let's poke our fingers with a pen and smear a little blood on there, and when we're away from each other we'll wear the necklace'," he continues. "It was that easy. But by the time it came out in the press, it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks."

Jolie went on to wed her now-estranged husband Brad Pitt in 2014, while Thornton is now married to Connie Angland.
