The 'Scandal' star reveals she was 'massively sad' for three months after she lost her first child.

AceShowbiz - Scandal star Katie Lowes suffered a miscarriage before welcoming her son last year (17).

The actress gave birth to Albee in October (17), and now reveals she lost her first child and jumped straight into planning for another pregnancy without grieving her loss.

"(The doctor) was like, 'Oh my God I'm so sorry, but there is (no heartbeat) and in came the tissues,' " Katie recalls on the latest broadcast of her podcast, Katie's Crib. "The initial feeling, when I found out there was no heartbeat from the doctor in a routine checkup, was like, 'OK, let's Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington's fixer character in her TV show Scandal) the situation, let's fix it. Let's make the schedule, let's get to the hospital, let's get the (dilation & curettage). When can I start trying again?'".

However, after the emotional toll set in, she felt "massively sad" about the loss.

"As soon as it set in that I'd had a miscarriage, what happens is you have a major hormonal drop-off," she continues. "And I think I was massively sad for about three months, and I was only pregnant for three months".

The miscarriage also affected how long Katie waited to announce she was pregnant with her son.

"I was about 11 and a half weeks (when I had my miscarriage)," she adds. "I was a couple days away from telling everybody that I was pregnant. When I got pregnant with Albee, I waited way longer than 12 weeks to tell anyone because I kind of had (post traumatic stress disorder) PTSD about the miscarriage, for sure".
