Jonathan Kasdan addresses Lando Calrissian's sexuality after some people notice his fluidity in the spin-off film, 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'.

AceShowbiz - "Solo: A Star Wars Story" gives backstory of some of beloved "Star Wars" characters, and one of the highlights is Lando Calrissian's sexuality. As some people note from his lines in the movie, he appears to be pansexual.

Yes, the old friend of Han Solo, who is portrayed by Donald Glover in the spin-off, shows interest in men, women and even droids. Some critics interpret Lando and Han's banter as flirting. At one point in the movie, he calls Han "baby." In the film, Lando's female droid L3-37 also claims that he has romantic feelings for her, but she doesn't reciprocate those hypothetical feelings. "I'm sure you noticed that Lando has feelings for me," she tells Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke).

In an interview with The Huffington Post, writers Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan are asked about Lando's possible sexual fluidity. "I would say yes," Jonathan answers. "There's a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee's [portrayal of Lando's] sexuality," he adds.

"I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity - sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of," Jonathan goes on explaining. "He doesn't make any hard and fast rules. I think it's fun. I don't know where it will go."

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who voices L3, dishes on Lando's relationship with the droid. "The fact that they can be rude and short with each and they can boss each other around is actually what reveals their love for each other and trust for each other," she tells USA Today. "They're both very independent characters in their own right and yet they've chosen to partner with each other. There's something I think really romantic about that."

Meanwhile, Lawrence Kasdan is more cryptic about the intentions of Lando's attitudes and lines in the movie. "That is her personality. Maybe it means something, maybe it doesn't," he says when asked about L3 who jokes about Lando's flirty attitude toward Han.

This leaves the interaction between Lando and Han open for interpretation when "Solo: A Star Wars Story" opens in theaters across the nation on May 25. Directed by Ron Howard, it also stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han, Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett, and Thandie Newton as Tobias' wife Val Beckett.
