AceShowbiz - Gary Oldman has signed on to write, direct, and star in biopic "Flying Horse". The film will center on photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who is credited for helping to develop the moving picture. In 1872, the photographer was commissioned by the former governor of California to take a picture of a moving horse and while he enjoyed his successes he discovered his wife was having an affair with critic Major Harry Larkyns.

Muybridge murdered Larkyns but was acquitted on the grounds of justifiable homicide, according to Deadline.

Oldman's longtime business partner Doug Urbanski is producing alongside Tucker Tooley.

"We long to make good movies, and that means good stories, and there are few stories as good as these events," a joint statement from Oldman and Urbanski reads. "Launching the first feature from our newly formed production company, Flying Studios, with Tucker makes the entire thing very special for us. We could not wish for a more supportive or collaborative partner."

This isn't the first project the Oscar-winning "Darkest Hour" star has directed since he also took charge of dark drama "Nil by Mouth" in 1997.
