AceShowbiz - Peter Capaldi has joined the cast of the modern adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale "David Copperfield". The former "Doctor Who" vet will take on the role of Mr. Micawber, who is imprisoned for failing to pay his debts to creditors, in The Death of Stalin director Armando Iannucci's "The Personal History of David Copperfield".

"Who's going to be the new Mr Micawber? #ThePersonalHistoryOfDavid Copperfield," the director wrote on Twitter alongside a picture of Capaldi on Tuesday, May 8.

Capaldi joins Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie and Dev Patel, who has been cast as the titular character in the film, which follows the fortunes of an orphan.

Ben Whishaw, Morfydd Clark, Anthony Welsh, Rosalind Eleazar, and Aneurin Barnard will also appear in the movie.

The original "David Copperfield" was Dickens' eighth novel, published in 1850, and is believed to be inspired by events that occurred in Dickens' own life.

Iannucci and Simon Blackwell have written the script for the latest adaptation, and production is scheduled to start next month (June 2018) in the U.K.

A release date has yet to be announced.
