'DWTS' Recap: Two More Athletes Sent Home in Double Elimination

The Monday, May 7 episode of the ABC dancing competition show saw the remaining athletes competing in Team Dance competition, throwing everything back to 1950s Tennis and 1970s Football.

AceShowbiz - "Dancing with the Stars" Athletes Edition aired its second episode on Monday, May 7. As this special edition is shortened to only four weeks, the ABC dancing competition show is already at the halfway point with the eight remaining contestants competing in Team Dance competition.

Prior to that, they showcased their dancing skills in the individual dances with the added bonus of real time voting. Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess were the first pair to perform. The two opted for a Paso Doble as James Horner's "The Plaza of Execution" (a.k.a. the theme to "The Mask of Zorro") played in the background. The judges, including guest judge and season 24 winner Rashad Jennings, were pleased with the performance. Josh earned 30 points.

Following Josh were Jennie Finch Daigle, who danced Cha-Cha to Janelle Monae's "Make Me Feel" with pro Keo Motsepe. The softball pitcher delivered a better performance compared to last week's Foxtrot. The judges gave them 26 points out of 40.

Later, it was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Lindsey Arnold's turn. They attempted to redeem their last week's performance by dancing Salsa to "La Malanga" by Eddie Palmieri. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba praised Kareem, saying that it was his "best dance so far." The pair got 26 points.

Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson later followed them up. The pair delivered an "outstanding" Waltz as "Next to Me" by Imagine Dragons played. Bruno commented, "You are the leading man, a waltzing heartthrob … You were fluid. You used the space very well." Chris earned 33 points.

Performing Quickstep to Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" were Tonya Harding and Sasha Farber. It was such an excellent and energetic performance by the former figure skater. Tying with Chris, Tonya got 33 points.

The next perfomer was Mirai Nagasu. This week, she danced Foxtrot to "It's a Small World" by The O'Neill Brothers Group alongside pro Alan Bersten. Carrie Ann dubbed her performance "gorgeous," while Rashad said that it was "a great dance, great choreography. It was graceful it was peaceful." Mirai was given the first 10 in this season, earning a satistying score of 37 points.

Arike Ogunbowale and Gleb Savchenko joined forces to deliver a "fantastic" performance of Foxtrot. Accompanied by Pink's "What About Us", the pair mind-blew the judges. They earned 33 points.

Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson were the last contestants to perform their individual dances. The pair opted to do Quickstep to "Make Way" by Aloe Blacc. Len Goodman couldn't hid his amazement and said, "So much content, so much speed, but so much clarity of movement." Adam got 37 points.

Later, it was time for Dance Team as the athletes were divided into two groups, Team 1950s Tennis and Team 1970s Football. Team 1950s Tennis first performed. Chris & Witney, Josh & Sharna, Kareem & Lindsay, and Tonya & Sasha were joining forces to dance to "... Baby One More Time" by The Baseballs. They got 33 points.

Team 1970s Football, consisting of Adam & Jenna, Arike & Gleb, Jennie & Keo, and Mirai & Alan, followed them up. They delivered a fun performance as Dan Hartman's "Instant Replay" played in the background. It was "absolutely entertaining," according to Rashad. They got 37 points.

Kareem & Lindsey, Chris & Witney, and Arike & Gleb were announced as the teams who were in jeopardy. Fortunately, Chris and Witney were saved, while Kareem and Arike were eliminated.

"Dancing with the Stars" airs on Monday at 8 P.M. on ABC.
