Meanwhile, 'Avengers: Infinity War' co-director Joe Russo confirms a fan theory about the Soul Stone, which supports Saldana's statement about the character's return.

AceShowbiz - "Avengers: Infinity War" perhaps has the most casualties from the Marvel superhero crew as they face the big bad, Thanos. While fans are still reeling from the shocking deaths in the latest "Avengers" movie, it may not be the end for one beloved character.

Zoe Saldana, who reprises her "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" role of Gamora in "Infinity War", may have dropped a big spoiler about "Avengers 4". In a recent interview, [SPOILER ALERT!] she said that her character would return for the fourth movie.

"At least for me, it felt like a [to be continued]," she said. "Because I knew that we will have to all come back, at some point this fall, and finish up the fourth installment of 'Avengers'...It felt like see you later, not like a formal goodbye."

In "Infinity War", Thanos sacrificed Gamora, the only one he loved, to acquire the Soul Stone in a scene set in Vormir. Later after his mission to banish half of the Earth population is accomplished, Thanos is seen in another place where he is joined by a young Gamora (Ariana Greenblatt).

While it's obvious that the scene is not set in the present day, it's also not set in the past because as Gamora asks Thanos if he had "done it," he wearily replies, "Yes," alluding to the massacre. She asks again, "And what was the cost?" He responds with tears welling in his eyes, "Everything."

Fans speculate that the scene is set in Soulworld, a pocket dimension that, in the comics, acts as a sort of purgatory for souls captured by Adam Warlock. Soulworld is contained within the Soul Stone, which Thanos is able to access after acquiring the stone.

During an appearance at Iowa City High School, co-director Joe Russo confirmed this theory. "Yeah, it's - it's implied it's the Soul Stone. It's all orange around, then he's inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers," he said.

When asked if that means Gamora is in the Soul Stone after she's thrown to the pit by Thanos, Russo answered, "She's, in fact is, yes." He added, "It was an attempt on our part, because we don't like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains. ... [Thanos] said at the end 'It cost him everything,' and that it was the only thing he loved, which was Gamora, which is why we put him back with her at the end. I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster."

Those two statements from Saldana and Russo are pretty much assurance that Gamora will return in "Avengers 4" and a new installment of "GOTG". Meanwhile, Chris Pratt also seemed to hint that Mantis will be back for a third "GOTG" movie when he wished Pom Klementieff a happy birthday on Instagram.

He wrote, "Happy Birthday @pom.klementieff whom many of you know as Mantis!!! She's such a unique, talented and driven artist. Can't wait to start shooting Guardians Vol. 3 with her next year! Hope you're having a good day Pom!"

"Avengers 4" was filmed back-to-back with "Infinity War". Although the official title is not announced yet, the follow-up movie is set to arrive on May 3, 2019 in the United States.
