Emmy-winning documentary maker Liz Garbuz will direct the docuseries, which is based on Michelle McNamara's 'I'll Be Gone in the Dark'.

AceShowbiz - Actor Patton Oswalt is helping turn his late wife's final true crime book about the Golden State Killer into a docuseries following the arrest of her prime suspect. HBO has announced plans to adapt "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" into a TV series, which will directed by Emmy-winning documentary maker Liz Garbus.

"Excited and humbled to be able to work with @lizgarbus on this!" Oswalt shared on his Twitter page. As of now, a premiere date has yet to be announced.

Author Michelle McNamara had unmasked Joseph James DeAngelo as the man she believed to have committed a series of unsolved killings, rapes and burglaries across California from 1976 to 1986 in her book "I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer", which Oswalt set out to complete following her death in 2016.

It was released earlier this year and is thought to have helped authorities re-examine the cold cases, leading to 72-year-old DeAngelo's arrest in Sacramento last week.
