Alex Turner's Mom Says He Should Quit Arctic Monkeys
Music

The English musician's mom thinks that it may be time for her son to leave the band as he has 'spent half of my life in this band.'

AceShowbiz - Alex Turner's mom jokingly suggested he should quit the Arctic Monkeys to "do something sensible" after 16 years in the band. The "Brianstorm" singer's mom Penny recently hinted she thought it might be time for her son to quit the band.

"When I turned 32 in January, my mother congratulated me and asked if I was even aware that I have now spent half of my life in this band," he tells Germany's Intro magazine. "She wanted to know if it was not time for something else, something sensible, for example." However, he admits she knew he loves music too much to quit and didn't mean her suggestion "very seriously."

Alex founded the band alongside Matt Helders, Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley and former member Andy Nicholson in Sheffield, England in 2002, and four years later they emerged as one of the U.K.'s biggest bands.

The band are returning with their new album "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino", their comeback record after a four-year hiatus, later this month. And Alex says their return marks the start of a new era for the group as Jamie and Matt have started families.

"Now some of us got married, there were the first children, pregnancies," he explains. "Changes were in the air. And so it happened: we have seen each other much less often in the past five years than at any other time in our lives."
