AceShowbiz - A fan-favorite DC comic book character is coming to the small screen. DC Universe, DC Entertainment's upcoming SVOD service, has given a script-to-series order for a live-action series adaptation of "Swamp Thing".

"Aquaman" director James Wan is tapped to executive produce the project, which is based on DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Wan confirmed his involvement in the project on his Twitter account. "Been developing this 'vegetarian hero' for awhile now :) With a great team. Happy to finally share. Expect -- mood, mystery, gothic romance, and swamp monsters!" he wrote.

Mark Verheiden ("Battlestar Galactica", "Daredevil") and Gary Dauberman ("It", "It 2") will be providing the script for the potential series. If the script is well-received, the project will then be picked up straight to series.

Also serving as executive producer is Wan's Atomic Monster banner topper Michael Clear. Rob Hackett will co-exec produce, while Verheiden and Dauberman will also exec produce. In addition, Verheiden and Dauberman serve as show-runners of the potential show.

The official logline of the project reads, "When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-born virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland -- only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous -- and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

Fans are hyped up over the news of bringing "Swamp Thing" to a live-action series. "This is intriguing. It would be nice to do #SwampThing proper in live-action. #DCUniverse," tweets a fan. Another adds, "It'd only be right to play 'You Make My Dreams' by Hall & Oates right now."

"Swamp Thing" is scheduled for a 2019 release.
