AceShowbiz - Former "Empire" actor Morocco Omari has been cleared of domestic battery following a two-day trial in Chicago, Illinois. Omari was arrested in early April, 2017, after a woman who identified herself as his girlfriend called police and accused the actor of shoving her to the ground during a heated argument.

She was reportedly left with visible scratches on her neck and chest, and Omari, who denied the allegations, was subsequently charged with a misdemeanour.

He stood trial last week and on Friday, April 27, jurors returned a not guilty verdict after deliberating for less than two hours, according to The Associated Press.

After his acquittal, Omari likened the domestic drama to "a hurricane wiping out your house," adding, "Since the #MeToo [anti-sexual misconduct] movement, any time people hear domestic abuse it gives them a pause [sic]."

Omari also insisted he would "never" hit a woman, because he was raised by his mother and grandmother and is a doting dad to his two daughters.

He is best known for playing FBI Agent Tariq Cousins on actors Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson's hit hip-hop drama series "Empire". Omari's character was killed off in season three.
