The 'Black Panther' actor is set to return to Howard University in May to deliver the keynote for the institution's 150th commencement ceremony and to receive the honor.

AceShowbiz - "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman is heading back to school in Washington, D.C. to be presented with an honorary doctorate. The actor has been invited back to his alma mater, Howard University, to deliver the keynote for the institution's 150th commencement ceremony on May 12, when he will also be made a Doctor of Humane Letters, the school's highest accolade.

"It is an incredible honour and privilege for the Howard University community to welcome back home one of its native sons, Chadwick Boseman, to deliver the 2018 commencement address," reads a statement issued by Howard University President, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick.

He goes on to note how the actor's role in superhero blockbuster "Black Panther" "reminds us of the excellence found in the African diaspora and how Howard continues to be a gem that produces the next generation of artist-scholars, humanitarians, scientists, engineers and doctors."

"Mr. Boseman exemplifies the monumental heights and levels Howard graduates can achieve by using the skills and knowledge they acquired at the university," he adds.

Celebrating the news, Boseman shares, "I'm excited to return to the Mecca in celebration of the achievements of our illustrious students. Let's listen, learn and build with one another."

In addition to "Black Panther", the actor has also become known for his penchant for a good biopic, with his onscreen portrayals including legendary musician James Brown, baseball icon Jackie Robinson and fellow Howard University alumnus, Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, in 2017's "Marshall".
