AceShowbiz - Paramount Network has picked up a TV reboot of "First Wives Club" to a series, the cable network announced on Thursday, April 19. The upcoming comedy series, which was initially given a pilot order in April, is set to have 10 half-hour episodes with the production being scheduled to start this summer in New York City.

"Girls Trip" writer Tracy Oliver is tapped to provide the script for the reboot of the classic 1996 film. In addition to penning the script, Oliver will serve as executive producer alongside Karen Rosenfelt ("Twilight Saga") and the original "First Wives Club" producer Scott Rudin. The original script written by another writer was scrapped with Oliver fully rewriting the script.

" 'Girls Trip' was one of the funniest comedies in recent memory and we know Tracy will breathe new life, and some serious laughs, into these beloved 'First Wives Club' characters," Amy Powell, president of Paramount TV, said in a statement.

Paramount Network President Keith Cox, who will oversee the new series, also sang a praise for Oliver, saying that she "is a brilliant writer." Cox continued, "[She is] the perfect visionary to bring this unforgettable story from the big screen to the small screen in a fresh and contemporary way."

The original movie followed a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart. They found strength in their sisterhood as they orchestrated a little revenge on their ex-husbands who wronged them. The classic flick starred Bette Middler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.

Paramount Network's new take on the classic is, in fact, not the first adaptation of the movie. In 2009, "First Wives Club" was adapted into a stage musical by Brian Holland, Lamond Dozier and Eddie Holland.

Cast of the upcoming reboot has not been announced yet. Meanwhile, the TV reboot of "First Wives Club" is set to premiere sometime in 2019.
