Movie

The 'Iron Man' actor mentions several award winners, including Marion Cotillard, Octavia Spencer and Craig Robinson, who will star in the Doctor Dolittle film.

AceShowbiz - On Tuesday, March 27, Robert Downey Jr. took to Twitter to unveil the full cast for Universal's live action-animated hybrid "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle". The "Iron Man" actor posted a picture showing several faces, names and their roles in the movie.

On the post, Robert mentioned several celebrities who had not been previously announced to star in the movie. The celebrities, who will lend their voices to the film, include Oscar winners Marion Cotillard and Octavia Spencer, Oscar nominee Kumail Nanjiani, Emmy Award winner Rami Malek, Craig Robinson, John Cena, Carmen Ejogo and Frances de la Tour.

Meanwhile, the previously announced cast members were Robert himself who will play Dr. John Dolittle, Ralph Fiennes who will voice Barry the tiger, Emma Thompson who will lend her voice to Polynesia the parrot, Tom Holland who will provide his voice for Jip the dog, and Selena Gomez who will voice Betsy the giraffe.

Besides the aforementioned celebrities, the cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Harry Collett and Jim Broadbent. Antonio will star in a live-action role of Rassouli, with Michael being cast as Mudfly. Meanwhile, Universal has not announced live-action roles to be played by Harry and Jim.

As for the crew, Stephen Gaghan will direct the movie from a screenplay which he wrote based on the previous draft written by Thomas Shepherd. Meanwhile, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum of their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films will produce the film alongside Susan Downey of Team Downey. Universal acquired the rights to film the movie last year.

The movie is based on 1992's series of children books of the same title by Hugh Lofting. In the second book, a Victorian-era physician chooses to treat animals instead of humans because he's able to speak with them. When Tommy and Mathew Mugg go to the doctor's house to treat an injured squirrel, the doctor has gone away on a voyage.

"The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle" will hit theaters on April 12, 2019 in the U.S.
