Meghan Markle is one step closer to becoming a British royal family member. Ahead of her and Prince Harry's May 19 royal wedding, Queen Elizabeth II has given official consent for her grandson Prince Harry to marry the former "Suits" actress this coming May.
According to the Succession to the Crown Act, Harry must obtain formal permission before he gets to tie the knot. Coming on Thursday, March 15, a formal letter from Kensington Palace featured the monarch expressing her support for the couple.
"My Lords, I declare my Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council," the letter read.
However, people noticed a drastic difference between the aforementioned statement with the one Her Majesty released for Prince William and Kate Middleton. While the Queen referred the couple as "Our Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, K.G. and Our Trusty and Well-beloved Catherine Elizabeth Middleton," Meghan was simply addressed as "Rachel Meghan Markle." This prompted people to wonder if the Queen threw subtle shade to the 36-year-old beauty.
It came after Meghan joined other royal family members, including Harry, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Duchess of Cornwall Camilia Parker Bowles, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, at her first Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
Looking stunning in a cream coat from Amanda Wakeley, beret-style Stephen Jones hat and a pair of navy heels, Meghan didn't seem to be nervous despite it being her first official event with the monarch ahead of her and Prince Harry's May royal wedding. During the Monday event, Meghan was seen following along her pamphlet and singing while Liam Payne performing. The One Direction member belted out John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" in front of royal families.
