AceShowbiz - Fox Searchlight eyes another talent to be tapped to play a character in its new movie. %cJon Hamm% is in talks to star in Fox Searchlight's astronaut drama "Pale Blue Dot". If he agrees, he will star opposite %cNatalie Portman% who will play a returnee astronaut, as reported by Variety.
"Pale Blue Dot" will center on a successful married female astronaut, played by Natalie, who returns to Earth after a mission in space. After living very long time on a zero gravity environment, Natalie's character finds it hard to connect to humanity. The film explores the theory that astronauts who spend a long time in space lose their sense of reality when returning home. They will face intense feelings of isolation and hallucinations. That's what happens to the poor female astronaut. She loses her connection to her family and she attempts an affair with a fellow astronaut, who will be played by Jon.
The movie will be directed by Noah Hawley and is penned by Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. %cReese Witherspoon%, who was attached to star at one point, will produce alongside Bruna Papandrea.
Jon Hamm gained wide recognition after playing Don Draper on AMC's "Mad Men", which debuted in July 2007. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series-Drama in 2008 and in 2016. He also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2015.
His other small-screen credits include Sky Arts' series "A Young Doctor's Notebook", "Black Mirror", "Parks and Recreation" and "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp". He also lent his voice to animated films like "Shrek Forever After" and "Minions".
He recently starred in "Marjorie Prime" and played a bank robber in Edgar Wright's "Baby Driver". His new thriller "Beirut", which had its world premiere at Sundance on January 22, will hit U.S. theaters on April 13.
"Pale Blue Dot" production is expected to start in the spring.
