The third installment of the new dinosaur film franchise will launch into theaters in 2021.

AceShowbiz - Be ready for another dino rampage in 2021. "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" is not hitting theaters yet, but Universal Studios already gives a vote of confidence to the franchise by putting a third installment of the Chris Pratt-starring film series on its calendar.

Currently titled "Jurassic World 3", the third film is slated to bow on June 11, 2021. So far, no other major release is set for that date, with the closest competition being an untitled Pixar animation scheduled for a June 18, 2021 release.

Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow will return as executive producers for the threequel, while Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley return as producers. Emily Carmichael has been tapped to join Colin Trevorrow as co-writer of the upcoming movie.

Kicking off a new successful franchise for the studio, the first "Jurassic World" movie was released in 2015 and made $1.7 billion in worldwide box office. The sequel, "Fallen Kingdom", is set to open wide in the U.S. on June 22.

Pratt reprises his role as dinosaur trainer Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard returns as Claire Dearing, the former operations manager for Jurassic World turned activist who founded the Dinosaur Protection Group. Four years after theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment, Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who's still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, it also stars B.D. Wong who reprises his role as Dr. Henry Wu, with James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda taking on new roles. "Jurassic Park" vet Jeff Goldblum, meanwhile, will make appearance as Dr. Ian Malcolm.

Bayona said of the film, "It will be darker and scarier than the previous film. Obviously, when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is the second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in '[Star Wars] The Empire Strikes Back' or 'The Wrath of Khan', which are the examples you always get. The film takes the story where it has never been before."
