Scriptwriter Jon Kasdan says the modifications to the iconic starship, which belonged to Lando Calrissian before he lost it to Han Solo, reflect its owner.

AceShowbiz - The Millennium Falcon as we know it today apparently is not how it used to look. The iconic starship, which fans first saw in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope", had gone through some modifications before the events in the 1977 film.
The initial look of Millennium Falcon with blue and white design and glossy interior will be featured in the upcoming Han Solo movie, "Solo: A Star Wars Story". A detailed look at the Corellian freighter is also unveiled through its LEGO set.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the design in "Solo" is how the starship used to look when it still belonged to Lando Calrissian before he lost it to Han Solo in a game of sabacc. "The Star Wars Show" pointed out last week that this look was partly inspired by the early visual development designs of legendary galactic concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.
Those altercations are not without meaning. According to Jon Kasdan who wrote the "Solo" script with his father Lawrence Kasdan, the modifications to the starship reflect its owner. "One of the things Larry and I had talked about was the Falcon should always reflect the personality of its captain," he says.
Jon Kasdan goes on explaining about the design in "Solo", "Where Han gave it a certain shabby coolness and a dinged up quality that reflected where he was at that point in his life, this Falcon reflects its owner very clearly in its shape and aesthetic and his needs, even if those needs be a little more space to entertain."
Alden Ehrenreich, who takes over the role of the smuggler from Harrison Ford, has his own explanation of the modifications Han did to the Falcon design. "It's safer in the galaxy to fly something that looks like a piece of junk. People underestimate you - especially if you're up to no good," he says. "Kinda like how you're more likely to get pulled over if you're driving a Lamborghini."
There's more alterations to Falcon, including its more tapered nose instead of the forked mandibles, but that will only be explained in the movie since it may reveal major spoiler.
While some secrets about the Millennium Falcon are still kept under wraps, director Ron Howard has shared another secret from the upcoming movie. He tweeted that "Iron Man" director and star Jon Favreau has a role in the film.
"Wondering why we r all together? @Jon_Favreau is voicing a very cool & important alien character for #HanSolo Flattered & fortunate I could pull him away from his #LionKing directing duties," he wrote, retweeting Favreau's post that includes their picture together.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" also stars Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Donald Glover as Han's friend Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke as a new character named Kira. It is slated to arrive May 25 in theaters across the nation.
