Speaking to the site, director Simon Kinberg reveals that in order to properly visualize Jean's fiery transformation into Phoenix, the new "X-Men" film has a longer post-production period than usual, nearly a year. The helmer explains that he "wanted the post time to deliver on the nuance of the visual effects, not just the scale of them. That takes time."

In the upcoming movie, Jean Grey is at war with herself. And in order to play her character's duality, Sophie says that she studied multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia. "So many scenes I have to go from broken-down Jean -- that's when she's most subsceptible to Phoenix infiltrating her -- to this confident, arrogant, judgmental character within milliseconds," the actress says.

Other photos from the upcoming film also offer fans a first look at Jessica Chastain's character and a new look at Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique as well as feature a funeral.
It turns out Jessica is not playing Lilandra. Instead, she takes on the role of a "quite but brutal" otherworldy shapeshifter who manipulates Phoenix for her own benefit. Of her villainous character, the "Molly's Game" actress tells the site, "Simon and I were talking about the character and I said, 'I keep thinking of the vet who tells you you need to put your dog down.' There's something very clinical about it."

Meanwhile, Jennifer's Mystique has got a makeover. The blue mutant now sports a new bob, and she's also more mature. The "mother!" actress says of her character, "She's grown up a lot. She's more maternal which surprised me. She starts to get more protective of the [school] children and Charles [Xavier] wants to push them to prove to the world that mutants can be good for humanity and I just see them as small children."

In the photo featuring a funeral, Charles (James McAvoy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) can be seen mourning something or somebody.
Addressing the sad scene, Jennifer says she would call "Dark Phoenix" "a drama." She shares, "We have really great action scenes and we go to space like within the first five minutes of the movie. So it's definitely exciting but emotionally all these characters are taking the biggest, most extreme dives than they have in the whole series."
Also, WTF is happening in this scene? Here's a quote from James McAvoy that may explain: "There’s a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering.” #DarkPhoenix pic.twitter.com/jKZ7fR0UQo

Additionally, Fox has released one concept art which features the X-Jet logging some intergalactic miles. As seen in the pic, the film will be the first time the X-Men venture into space. At the beginning of the film, the team is dispatched on a rescue mission. However, a solar flare hits the X-Jet, forcing Jean to use her power to save the team while the extreme surge of energy at the same time unleashes the Phoenix.
