AceShowbiz - The Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association have revealed the list of nominees for the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards. In movie category, "The Shape of Water" leads the pack with 14 nominations. The sci-fi flick comes up in several categories including Best Picture, Director and Best Original Screenplay for Guilermo del Toro, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Visual Effects.
"The Shape of Water" also helps its lead actress Sally Hawkins earn a nomination for Best Actress, marking her second major notice on the awards trail after she took home the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Best Actress prize. The sci-fi horror film additionally sees Hawkins' co-stars Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins picking up nods for their work.
Trailing behind "The Shape of Water" with eight nods each are Luca Guadagnino's Sundance breakout "Call Me by Your Name", Greta Gerwig's "Lady Bird", Steven Spielberg's "The Post" and Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk". They are also listed in Best Picture category, joining "The Shape of Water" and other movies like "The Big Sick", "Darkest Hour", "The Florida Project", "Get Out" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".
In the Best Actor category, "Call Me by Your Name" star Timothee Chalamet is competing against James Franco ("The Disaster Artist"), Jake Gyllenhaal ("Stronger"), Tom Hanks ("The Post"), Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out"), Daniel Day-Lewis ("Phantom Thread") and Gary Oldman ("Darkest Hour").
Meanwhile, Sally Hawkins is competing against the likes of Jessica Chastain ("Molly's Game"), Frances McDormand ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"), Margot Robbie ("I, Tonya"), Saoirse Ronan ("Lady Bird") and Meryl Streep ("The Post") in Best Actress category.
All winners, including those in TV category, will be announced during the ceremony which will be held on Thursday, January 11, four days after the Golden Globes. It will be broadcast live from 8-10 P.M. ET on The CW.
