The 'Murder, She Wrote' star says her statements were taken 'out of context' and claims that she's 'a strong supporter of Women's Rights.'

AceShowbiz - Angela Lansbury has responded to the backlash she received following her controversial comments on sexual harassment allegations in Hollywood. In the recent issue of Radio Times, the "Murder, She Wrote" star suggested that women sometimes must accept blame for sexual harassment because of the way they make themselves look attractive.

Backtracking on her initial statement, she now says in a statement released on Wednesday evening, November 29, "There is no excuse whatsoever for men to harass women in an abusive sexual manner. And, I am devastated that anyone should deem me capable of thinking otherwise."

"Those who have known the quality of my work and the many public statements I have made over the course of my life, must know, that I am a strong supporter of Women's Rights," the veteran actress adds.

She goes on claiming, "Lastly, I would like to add that I am troubled by how quickly and brutishly some have taken my comments out of context and attempted to blame my generation, my age, or my mindset, without having read the entirety of what I said."

Angela previously said when weighing in on the wave of sexual harassment allegations in Hollywood, "There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us -- and this is where we are today. We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it's awful to say we can't make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped."

She added though, "Should women be prepared for this? No, they shouldn't have to be! There's no excuse for that. And I think it will stop now - it will have to. I think a lot of men must be very worried at this point."

Following her comments, people took to Twitter to slam the 92-year-old actress. "Dear Angela Lansbury, I understand that you are 92 years old and from a different time, but your views only strengthen the disgusting men who perpetrate such acts against your sex. It's NEVER the woman's fault!" one wrote.

Some others, however, defended her, with one explaining, "I don't think Ms. Lansbury intend to 'blame' the victim. She is of an era where women were more modest in dress. IMO-she's saying-'don't advertise/promise something you're not willing to give'."
