Following the success of "Murder on the Orient Express", Fox is preparing to make the next film adaptation of another Agatha Christie novel "Death on the Nile". The film will follow another journey of Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, who investigates a murder mystery in Egypt.

The Hollywood Reporter states that although there is no signed deal with Kenneth Branagh yet, he is expected to return as the film's director and reprise his role of Poirot. Michael Green, the man who wrote powerful stories in "Orient Express", "Logan", "Blade Runner 2049", "Alien: Covenant" and "American Gods", is set to return as the sequel's screenwriter.

Christie published "Death on the Nile" three years after "Orient Express" was published. The story follows an exotic Egypt vacation featuring the elites and socialites, which becomes a murderous case after a love triangle gone bad. The novel was once adapted into a star-studded 1978 film which starred Peter Ustinov as Poirot, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury and David Niven. The film was not a big hit, but it won an Academy Award for best costume design.

The synopsis of "Death on the Nile" reads, "Beloved detective Hercule Poirot embarks on a journey to Egypt in one of Agatha Christie's most famous mysteries, 'Death on the Nile'. The tranquility of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful. A girl who had everything... until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger, 'I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.' Yet in this exotic setting, nothing is ever quite what it seems."

"Orient Express", which starred Branagh, Josh Gad, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Johnny Depp and Dame Judi Dench, was considered successful. The film made approximately $51 million domestically in its first opening weekend. For a $55 million-budgeted film, earning a total of $148 million in just ten days is considered a commercial success. Although critics gave this film a hard time with 58|percent| score on Rotten Tomatoes, 52 out of 100 on Metacritic and grade B on CinemaScore, casual cinemagoers seemed to love this mystery film and cannot wait for a sequel.
