AceShowbiz - Monday, November 13 episode was the semi-finals of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" season 25. The remaining five couples danced their best that night to get a spot in the finals next week and snag this season's Mirror Ball Trophy. The first half of that night's episode saw the contestants performing Dancer's Pick, which means the pros selected songs which they thought represented their celebrity partners the best.
%cDrew Scott% and %cEmma Slater% were the first couple to take the stage. They danced a Tango to "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by %cThe Proclaimers%. The performance earned the couple a praise from judge %cLen Goodman% who said, "Well done, Braveheart! You came out full of determination and attack … It was so full-on you lost your posture and technique." %cBruno Tonioli% echoed Len's comment as he said, "You gave a tango like no other … You went for the character and you lost a little bit of the style of the dance," though %cCarrie Ann Inaba% thought it "lacked a little bit of artistry." They got 24 points.
Following it up were %cVictoria Arlen% and %cValentin Chmerkovskiy%, who danced a Contemporary to "To Build a Home" by Cinematic Orchestra feat. %cPatrick Watson%. Val's girlfriend, %cJenna Johnson%, joined them in the routine. Carrie Ann said of the performance, "I saw the fear, I saw the trepidation, I saw all the shades of all the emotional qualities that made that dance fantastic." Len concluded, "It was so poignant, so beautiful, well done." The couple earned 27 points.
%cJordan Fisher% and %cLindsay Arnold% were up next. Thankfully, Lindsay made it to the semi-finals after suffering a knee injury during rehearsals. The pair opted for an Argentine Tango to %cNEEDTOBREATH%'s "Brother" (feat. %cGavin DeGraw%) for their first semi-finals dance. Unlike their previous performances which were highly-praised, that night's routine "was not your best performance," according to Carrie Ann. The judges gave them 28 points.
%cLindsey Stirling% and %cMark Ballas% danced a Contemporary to "Head High" by %cAlexander Jean%, Mark and his wife's band. Despite a few mistakes in the beginning of the dance, Lindsey and Mark blew Len and other judges away. "It was a really fabulous performance," Len gushed. Carrie Ann added, "You have evolved so much … There was so much primal, beautiful, powerful energy. It was stunning." Lindsey got 29 points!
Along with %cWitney Carson%, %cFrankie Muniz% did a Salsa to "Shake" by %cYin Yang Twins% and %cPitbull%. During the hot salsa, Frankie dunked a basketball and ripped off his shirt! Bruno loved "the originality" and "the spirit of it." Carrie Ann added, "I don't know if the song necessarily matched you, but you give it all … You need to make sure you stay in the beat, not ahead of the beat." They got 25 points.
Now it's time for Iconic Dances, in which the contestants recreated iconic dancing, all of which got perfect 30 scores, from previous seasons. Kicking off Iconic Dances were Drew and Emma, who danced %cCorbin Bleu% and %cKarina Smirnoff%'s Jazz routine from season 17. Carrie Ann loved it, saying, "I think you approached it with grace," before adding, "Never do that lift again." The judges gave them 24 points.
Victoria and Val attempted to recreate %cDerek Hough% and %cAmber Riley%'s Charleston which was also from season 17. Bruno praised the pair, "Your acting tonight was right on the money... It had charm, it had wit, and your timing was spot on." Carrie Ann added that their performance was so good to the point she "forgot about Amber and Derek while I was watching you." They got 29 points.
Taking on %cPaige VanZant% and Mark's Jive from season 22, Jordan and Lindsay appeared to find back their rhythm. "That's the marathon of all jives on 'Dancing with the Stars'. One eye, one leg, amazing," Carrie Ann said. Bruno added, "Very rarely a remake can top an original, but this one did... It just is insane." A perfect score was given for the couple.
Lindsey and Mark, meanwhile, did a Tango which was previously performed stunningly by %cMeryl Davis% and %cMaksim Chmerkovskiy% in season 18. Although it was a risky routine, Len complimented the couple for their "proper tango." Carrie Ann said she was "torn" and added, "You have this friend-balance chemistry." The pair earned 28 points.
Frankie and Witney rounded out that night's performances with a Paso Doble routine which was made famous by season 4 champions %cJulianne Hough% and %cApolo Ohno%. Bruno praised Frankie, saying that he was "so macho," though he advised Frankie to "get your shoulders sorted." Len added, "There was not enough shaping, but for spirit you can't beat it." They got 26 points.
Lindsey and Mark were the first pair to be announced to go to the finals. It was later followed by Drew & Emma and Jordan & Lindsay. Left in jeopardy were Frankie & Witney and Victoria & Val. Unfortunately, Victoria and Val were eliminated, while Frankie and Witney joined others in the finals.
